On March 11th, the ground quaked and the waters roared, echoing the horrific nightmare of a 9.0 earthquake and the ensuing damage. Leaving parts of Japan experiencing the loss of life, missing loved ones, and debris, the nation is facing a catastrophic disaster.
I had the opportunity to travel to Japan nine years ago, mainly visiting Tokyo and a suburb town during my trip. The people I had the privilege to meet were very hospitable and the trip proved a great experience. Looking back on that trip and seeing what has occurred this past week has reminded me once again on the importance of life. God has given us a precious gift to live on this earth and the opportunity to have a relationship with Christ as well as loving others (Matthew 22:37-40).
The people of Japan need our prayers during this devastating time. Psalm 145:18 states, “The Lord is near to all who call on Him, to all who call on Him in truth.” Let’s pray for the Japanese to experience the Holy Spirit’s comfort and the love of God that will sustain them through pain. Also, pray for those who have not experienced a personal relationship with Jesus that they will come to know Him as their Savior and Lord. To know God in life’s ups and downs is the most comforting experience. During pain, we can run into the Father’s arms and express our emotions, hurts, and fears to a God that understands and will heal our deepest wounds (Hebrews 4:14-20).
Also, pray for the government as well as local and international humanitarian and search/rescue teams for strength, stamina, and wisdom. The days ahead will prove crucial in the finding and saving lives.
If you would like to financially support the relief efforts in Japan, please consider giving to two reputable ministries that are doing great efforts to provide assistance—Operation Blessing and Samaritan’s Purse.

Thank you for your prayers and support. This is what it means to help those in need.
