Former President Ronald Reagan once stated, "The future doesn't belong to the fainthearted; it belongs to the brave." Our culture yearns to see men and women, who in the midst of life's joys and sorrows, challenges and victories, will raise a standard of leadership that entails excellence, conviction, honesty, and humility.
The Patriot Academy is one of many organizations that has answered the call to prepare the next generation of leaders. A week long summer program in Austin, Texas, the Patriot Academy 's mission is "raising up a new generation to lead the change." The Patriot Academy pulls out of its students their gifts and talents, while instilling within them the principles that will position them to strategically influence others in the future.
In the week long training, Patriot Academy provides an environment where "[y]ou will work together to form a fully functioning mock government, drafting legislation, running committee meetings, debating bills, electing leaders and passing laws." As a result, "Patriot Academy will equip you to effect change for the issues that matter most to you, whether as a concerned citizen or political candidate." This program permits one to move from having a desire to influence government to actually learning the nuances in how the government functions. Furthermore, the tools one learns as well as skills acquired can translate into other leadership opportunities in business, ministry, etc.
The following excerpt from the founder, Rick Green's letter to potential students, expresses the exciting challenge and call to responsibility that one can expect to encounter: "Every generation of Americans has the duty and privilege of standing guard at the watchtower of freedom. When history writes her chapter on your generation, what will be said of the hour in which you were called to lead?"
I had the opportunity to meet and talk with several current and former Patriot Academy students earlier this past week. These individual's professional stature, personal interaction, engaged speaking skills, and sense of purpose stood out. These young adults are living with purpose and have counted the cost of what it means to serve in a political position. Instead of rushing into "glory" positions of leadership, they want to serve where God leads them and help their fellow man understand the truth. I left that evening encouraged that as organizations such as the Patriot Academy continue to equip the current and next generation, we will maintain America's freedoms, sovereignty, and traditional convictions.
